Skincare Products You Could Do Without
As much as it pains me to say, not every skincare routine has to be twenty steps. I know, I could spend an entire Selfcare Saturday luxuriating in creams and lotions, but I do not have to. There are some products I could omit and still have the glow girl benefits. Here are a few products we all could save our coin on.
Toner:
I came out of the gate with a big one. I am a firm believer of using a toner as a transition step from cleanser to acid. Unfortunately, the main objective of a toner is to balance the pH levels of your skin. The pH levels begin to balance out the moment water is applied to the face. If you are in a tight spot financially, let Mother Nature do her thing, and get the benefits of toner for $0.00. If you just want an added luxurious step in your routine, keep the toner. It only nourishes. If you want to do without, toss it!
Eye Cream:
An eye cream is essentially a glorified moisturizer. Some eye creams might be whipped for a fluffier texture or have lighter ingredients to cater to the sensitive under-eye area. As long as you are gentle with the application to the eyelid and under-eye area, you can use the same moisturizer for the entire face.
Face Oil:
Not to be confused with an oil-based cleanser, facial oil is generally applied as the last step of the skincare routine. Oils tend to seep into the skin + clog pores over time. Cream-based moisturizers are a better alternative because they are lighter, and after application, they tend to leave a smoother, more consistent softness. If you feel like you must have a facial oil, jojoba oil has components that are closely related to the oils your skin naturally creates. If you have been using a facial oil, or you are thinking about trying facial oil, save your coin.
Face Masks:
When it comes down to a black + white list of what we need and what we can do without, it pains me to say, face masks are strictly for luxury. Sad, but in reality, whatever extra boost you are utilizing a face mask for should already be a factor in your weekly routine. You do not need a hydrating mask if you are using hydration products regularly. Yes, you feel like the ultimate queen with serums penetrating your skin in a glittery gold sheet mask form, but if we are talking bare necessities, you can skip it.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you think about it, saving money is always great! If you are just a crazy person who wants to spend a ton of money on skincare, there is still the option of purchasing more expensive essential products. At the end of the day, the components you genuinely need are:
- Gel or oil-based cleanser
- Gentle exfoliator, for weekly use
- Serum
- SPF Moisturizer
If you want to splurge and indulge in some of the products previously mentioned, no judgment here. In fact, I have found several skincare products that won't break the bank! Try one (or all) of them and comment which skincare brands you are loving at the moment.
