Six Signs You Are Mentally Exhausted

Six Signs You Are Mentally Exhausted

Distractions are everywhere, and they can overwhelm your time if you allow them. Events, people, and social media can all be a positive outlet for a good time. Still, if you allow distractions to govern your life over positive, productive tasks, you could suffer from burnout or mental exhaustion. Here are six ways you may not know you are exhausted and how to combat them.

1. You are easily irritated, and you lose patience quicker than expected.

  • Irritability is a significant sign you need some me-time. If you find yourself snapping at others or seemingly annoyed over minor inconveniences, carve out some space during your day to indulge in a solo task. Pray, spend some time outdoors, or cook your favorite meal. Do something for yourself to recharge your mind and get back to being you!

2. You experience anxiety or panic attacks for no reason.

  • If you feel hopeless or overwhelmed out of the blue and it leads to a mental break, once again, it is a sign to pause and find a positive outlet. Schedule a coffee date or a lunch with a friend and try to put your life's events into words and the emotions they bring. A true friend will allow you to vent, and they could add sound input into your situation as well. Sharing your experiences with others is a way to feel connected, and it brings a sense of assurance to know you are not alone.

3. You feel entirely unmotivated or have lost interest in the things you usually enjoy.

  • If you are an artist and only feeling blue, it might be a sign you need to find new inspiration. Hobbies and activities you love should be a joyous and anticipated escape from reality, but if you are finding yourself in a blah state of mind, it is time to go on a few new adventures and find that spark that leads you back to the thing you love.

4. You have an abnormal appetite, or you suffer from stomach issues.

  • Speaking of things you love, food is at the top of our list. Relationships with food can become complex. An excessive loss of appetite or eating out of boredom can signify that you have become mentally exhausted and need to focus on the bigger problem at hand. Try simple self-evaluation every time to go to prepare a meal or snack. Am I truly hungry? Am I bored? Is this meal going to bless my body and benefit my needs? These may seem like silly questions, but they could help avoid health issues and future complications if you are sincere.

5. You do not feel as close to people, and you generally feel detached.

  • Separation anxiety is common among young people and adults. A sense of feeling alone and feeling unwanted is interchangeable, and it could lead to depression. If you feel a true sense of loneliness, do not be afraid to reach out to the people who genuinely care about you. Let the people you love know how you feel and help them comprehend where you feel like you stand with them. Often, busy schedules or miscommunication can be the root of an awkward relationship moment. Talk it out, and do not be afraid to walk away from one-sided or toxic relationships that no longer serve you.

6. You cannot sleep, or it takes you longer than usual to fall asleep.

  • If you have correctly set the mood to fall asleep, it takes the average person about seven minutes to begin a healthy rest. If you have consecutive days where you are having trouble sleeping, this is another sign to self-evaluate. Big or exciting events can contribute to a restless night, so it is your job to self-diagnose why you are up at night. Try not to allow too many of life's past mistakes or the what-ifs of the future to ruin the present importance of your health. Journal, meditate on God's Word, and try to let go of the things that are out of your control.
