Do This The Next Time You Feel Anxiety Creeping In
We have all had those moments when our nerves seemingly come undone. Anxiety can be paralyzing if you give in to it. There are a few small coping mechanisms to get you out of your head and in a calmer state. Try these tricks the next time you feel anxious.
Go for a nature walk
Take 15-20 minutes to observe the beautiful world around you. Add your favorite calming playlist to the mix and soak up everything you see.
Deep Breathing
When you feel nerves heightening, immediately break your concentration. If you are driving, pull over to a near and safe location. Close your eyes and take five deep breaths. Inhale as much air as your lungs can take and slowly let it out. If you do not start to feel relief, do another breathing set. Take a minute out of your day to get back on track.
Bathe
Indulge in a luxurious bath or shower. Candles, music, and warm water can almost instantly transform a mood. Set aside an evening to relax and recharge.
Indulge in your favorite hobby
If you adore arts + crafts, make time for what you love. Especially if it has been a while since you have done something you enjoy! Flex your creative muscles and focus on you.
Write it out
If feelings are swimming around in your head, get them out by transferring them on to paper. Keep a journal and make a list of situations that feel out of your control.
Engage your senses
Sculpt something out of clay, watch an inspirational TedTalk, listen to a podcast, cook a fragrant meal. Do something you and enjoy and get something out of it!
Drink some cold water
Consuming cold water can help you burn a few extra calories. It can also flush out toxins in your system and boost your metabolism, and help clear your mind. The next time you feel anxious, take the largest glass cup (or refrigerated bottle of water) you own and fill it to the rim with ice and water. Consume entirely it in one sitting.
