The Correct Way To Layer Your Skincre: PM Edition
Welcome to the PM portion of our Skincare Product Layering Class! How you apply your products in the evening can affect your skin's rejuvenation process while you sleep. If you want radiant, glowing, healthy skin in the morning, follow these nighttime regimen steps.
Cleanser
You have probably heard how important it is not to sleep with your makeup on, so unsurprisingly, cleansing your face should be the first step in your nighttime routine. Frech Girl Organics is a healthy and overall effective cleanser for all skin types. Do not forget the sixty-second rule!
Toner
With a damp face (products seep better into the skin with a damp face, not dry and not dripping), apply toner to a face pad, then apply to the areas mentioned above. The toner should be plant-based and straightforward, so there is no irritation or harsh reaction to the sunlight. Witch Hazel is a highly recommended evening toner.
Acne Topical Treatment
Just like in the morning, a pea-sized amount of treatment should be first on cleansed skin and then layer creamier formulations on top. You could apply spot treatment all over your face rather than one concentrated area to defend against future breakouts, but that is an added optional decision.
Serum
A vitamin-rich nighttime serum like retinol could be used sparingly at first (three to four times a week.) Then, over time as your skin adjusts, retinol could be applied every evening.
Eye Cream (optional)
An eye cream is an added luxury step you do not necessarily need, but it never hurts. Apply with the weakest finger (the ring finger) and gently pat the cream in starting from the corners in small circular motions toward the ear and over the eyelid.
Moisturizer
Nighttime is when you can use a richer or heavier moisturizer than what you would typically use in the morning. This will keep your skin hydrated throughout the nighttime and ready for the morning. Look for an oil-free moisturizer to not add to the amount of natural oil your body produces when you are sleeping.
Lip Balm
Just in case you see Prince Charming in your dream, you want to have soft kissable lips. Organic honey + olive oil is a simple, yet extremely beneficial overnight lip treatment. The honey is antibacterial for and preventative for cold sores and the olive oil soothes and nourishes.
