The Correct Way To Layer Your Skincre: AM Edition
As you may know, we here at Just Aneissa are no stranger to skincare. We embrace taking care of our money maker with the utmost respect. There is certainly a proper and an improper way to apply and layer your skincare products. This is the morning edition of the two-part article series.
Cleanser
If you plan to have a relaxing morning indulging in skincare, you must start with a sixty-second cleanse. Cleansing the skin with intention in soft and small circular motions eliminates the dirt, debris, and sweat off the top layer on the skin so the following products can penetrate the secondary layers. This step usually begins during the morning shower time. Begin your shower by wetting your face, applying a nickel-sized amount to the tip of your fingers, and start to massage in circular motions as started before. Count to sixty (or blast one minute of your favorite song) and wash from the hairline to the decolletage area, including the ears and the entire neck. This is the only step to complete in the shower. If you are not a morning shower type of person, this first step can always begin at the sink.
Toner -optional
With a damp face (products seep better into the skin with a damp face, not dry and not dripping), apply toner to a face pad, then apply to the areas mentioned above. The toner should be plant-based and straightforward, so there is no irritation or harsh reaction to the sunlight. Witch Hazel is a highly recommended morning toner.
Moisturizer
Your moisturizer serves as a security blanket, locking in all of the goodness previously applied. Select a moisturizer that works best with your skin type and once again apply it to all the same areas.
Face Oil
If you plan to use a face oil in the morning, the only types of oil recommend are vitamin C oil for hyperpigmentation, acne scars, brightening, or pure jojoba oil. Jojoba oil has the closest chemical makeup to our skin’s natural oil; this ensures it won't be too harsh or too foreign on freshly-cleansed skin.
SPF
Do not leave your home without any sun protection. No matter your skin hue, you need SPF! Make the number three with your hands and apply a line of sunscreen from the base of the finger, all the way to the tip of all three fingers- this is the amount of sunscreen you should apply every single morning. Without sunscreen, the product you used to help your skin will, in turn, hurt your skin by baking into your face. Apply from the hairline to the decolletage, including the entire neck and ears. Here's a bonus tip: apply any remaining SPF to the back of your hand to protect from sunspots while gripping the steering wheel and driving. Your neck and your hands will always tell your age, ladies, protect them at all costs.
